OYS at World Youth Day

World Youth Day is a youth-oriented international event that takes place every two to three years. The event is a celebration of Catholic faith among the world’s youth and the invitation is extended to young people of all religious convictions. World Youth Day was initiated by it's co-patron, Pope John Paul II in 1985 with the first encounter being held in Rome in 1986. There have been a total of 13 International World Youth Day encounters and the OYS has participated at six of these. St Teresa of Calcutta is the Patron Saint of World Youth Day.

History of World Youth Day

There have been 13 International World Youth Days since 1986 and the Oblate Youth Service has been involved since 2000 when the group travelled to Rome, Italy. Since then the OYS has been represented at World Youth Day's in Toronto (2002), Cologne (2005), Sydney (2008), Madrid (2011) and Krakow (2016).
