The Oblate Youth Service (OYS) is a group of
young lay men and women who through their lives and
together as a group use their gifts to serve those in need
through the missionary spirit of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) and their founder, Saint Eugene de Mazenod.
Part of the Anglo-Irish Oblate Province, the OYS evolved in 1987 from what was then known as the "Overland Trip" on the annual Oblate pilgrimage to Lourdes. It maintains the commitment of the Oblate family to
living the motto of its family's founder, "He
(God) has sent me to bring the good news to the poor", but also has its own identity and mission of service to the poor
and sick.
Whilst care of
the sick on the annual pilgrimage to Lourdes
remains central to the work of the OYS, it was soon recognised that we could
also share our skills, faith and time to make a difference at home and abroad. Consequently the OYS currently
works within the Anglo-Irish Province and in various projects in South Africa, Kenya and in the past Canada.
As an organisation in our own right we have
developed structures to support our work, with an Executive consisting of an
Executive Director, two Directors and a committee of five members of the OYS.
