OYS organises first "Guest" Pilgrim reunion |
|
|
|
Well the Guest Reunion last Sunday (24th
Feb) was a storming success, we had over 105 Guests there from past and present
trips to Lourdes
and the feedback has been unreal with everyone really enjoying themselves. The
day started with the ‘guests’ arriving at the Oblate hall in Inchicore for 1pm
for Mass which was celebrated by Fr Willie Fitzpatrick, Fr Vincent and Peter,
the music was sung by the folk choir of St Michael’s led by their leader Ann.
After the mass there was a short walk to the Grotto
and while this was happening the hall was being prepared for the afternoons
activities. On return to the hall people sat with their friends in groups
around the tables and from which everyone got involved with a friendly game of
bingo which was followed by well received refreshments to prepare for the rest
of the afternoon. This was a time of singing led by Fr Paul Bryne who managed
without too much difficulty to get the whole group singing and invited those
who wanted to, to sing solo and entertain all present, the music was led
greatly in the background by Paul and Patrick in their normal great way.
At 5pm it was time to say goodbye to each other and to
prepare to travel back home, at this point it would be very important to thank
our friends in the Knights of Malta who provided transport to those of our
guests who would not have been able to attend if it was not for them.

OYS Annual Guest Reunion - Inchicore |
Following the success of the past two years the OYS is again staging the annual Guest Reunion for all who come to Lourdes on the annual Oblate Pilgrimage. This is an opportunity for our Guests to meet up and renew friendships, reminisce on their Lourdes experience and discuss the coming years trip. It also gives the OYS the chance to meet up with our Guests. The day will take place on Sunday June 20th at 1pm in the Aras Mhuire Hall in Inchicore. Mass will be held firstly followed by a trip to the Grotto. Lunch will be provided for as well as entertainment for the afternoon.
All OYS who can attend are asked to try and endeavour to make it for the day. The organising committee will be sending out mail shots to remind all members.

Best of luck to the OYS members participating in the final phase of the Streetwise rebuild. In the last phase of a 5-year project, a group of tradesmen from Birr, Co. Offaly led by OYS member Padraig McIntyre and assisted by members Gareth Rooney, Kieran Shine and Ann Lynch are heading out to Durban, South Africa to reroof the home for street children which was badly needed. The OYS have contributed €10,000 to the project from projects like the Annual Members Draw and the Christmas Wreath Sale. Thanks are due to the lads from Birr and especially Padraig for agreeing to run the project. More info on Streetwise is available in the Africa>Streetwise section.

Just a short note to thank everyone and particularly Ed McMahon for the work on the Christmas Wreath Project 2008. It was very successful and as soon as we have a final figure from the sales we'll let everyone know!!! Thanks are also due to the Oblates for facilitating the project in the parishes at the masses and events over the Christmas period.
