World Youth Day (WYD) is the largest youth event in the world and WYD2008 will be held in Sydney on 15-20 July. At WYD08 young people will make a pilgrimage in faith, meet, and experience the love of God, all in the context of the beauty of Australia and the hospitality of the Australian people!
In August 2005, Pope Benedict XVI announced at WYD 2005 in Cologne, Germany that Sydney had been chosen for XXIII World Youth Day. Members of the Anglo-Irish Province Oblate Youth Service will be traveling to Australia both to attend WYD2008 in Sydney and meet with OYS members from other countries for the a celebration in Sydney. Plus we spend some time exploring and relaxing in Abu Dhabi, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast….
The itinerary for the trip is:
5 July – Depart Dublin for Abu Dhabi.
7 July – Arrive in Australia.
9-13 July – Join in International Oblate Youth Encounter in Melbourne.
13 July – Travel from Melbourne to Sydney.
14-20 July – Celebrate World Youth 2008 , culminating in mass with Pope Benedict XVI.
21-26 July – Depart Sydney for a week of relaxation in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
27-28 July – Travel back from Australia to Dublin.
