For over 40 years now the Irish Mercy Sisters have worked among the people of Kenya. In Nairobi, the sisters have run a large hospital providing health care for those who need it and also a day clinic in the local township.
Also in Nairobi the sisters are very much involved in the whole field of education in its broadest sense. Apart from providing primary education to over 2000 children also manage to give each child a hot dinner each day. There is an outreach programme to older young adults to enable them to develop their skills in computer awareness, tailoring and other vocational skills.
Outside Nairobi, over 100 miles on the road to Mombassa the sisters staff and run with others a small rural hospital at Mutomo. It is this small rural that the OYS have tried to support in a small way through fundraising, also the sisters have been very welcoming to some members of the OYS who have visited to work there for short periods of time.
