Based outside Durban, Streetwise is for children who have found themselves living on the streets, some due to poverty and others orphaned by AIDS. In addition to providing refuge, it works to understand street life and its effects, and educate the public and authorities as to the plight of street children and their rights.

Outreach identifies children living on the streets, who are then welcome to a home Streetwise runs in Marianhill, Durban. Programmes at the home include a bridging school, practical skills training, and rehabilitation for children crippled from the effects of glue sniffing, as well as sporting, cultural and recreational activities.

The goal is, where possible, to reunite children with their families and reconnect children with their communities, culture and local education system. Follow-up support for children who have returned home includes food parcels, counselling and assistance with education costs.
