group_foto_oysThe Oblate Youth Service (OYS) is a group of young lay men and women who through their lives and together as a group use their gifts to serve those in need through the missionary spirit of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) and their founder, Saint Eugene de Mazenod.

Part of the Anglo-Irish Oblate Province, the OYS evolved in 1987 from what was then known as the "Overland Trip" on the annual Oblate pilgrimage to Lourdes. It maintains the commitment of the Oblate family to living the motto of its family's founder, "He (God) has sent me to bring the good news to the poor", but also has its own identity and mission of service to the poor and sick.

steugene_photo1 Eugene de Mazenod (1782-1861) was described by his contemporaries as a man who had "a heart as big as the world". He founded the Oblates in 1861 under the vision that "We must lead people to act as human beings first of all, and then like Christians, and then finally we must help them become saints".

The Mission Statement of the Oblate Youth Service is:

“Through our service we strengthen our faith.” 

Working together we are enriched as we use the gifts of our youth to serve those in need through the missionary spirit of Saint Eugene de Mazenod.
