The Goals of the Oblate Youth Service (OYS)
enshrine within the group an ongoing commitment to service others and a desire
to evolve, progress and grow as a group. Consequently activities we maintain an
active programme at home, in Ireland
and the UK,
that include:
-
Ongoing support for Lourdes
guests – Whilst the Lourdes
pilgrimage lasts a week, our relationship for our guests continues beyond those
five days with many members maintain regular contact with guests, visiting them
and provide ongoing support.
-
Group development – We undertake to develop
the OYS spiritually and socially through activities that help the group
understand and fulfil the work that it provides to undertake. This is developed
through the work of the OYS Executive, which is made up of members of the group
to which it is accountable.
- Social gatherings – We are developing gatherings
for young people in Oblate parishes and centres.

OYS Group Development
weekend, Dublin

members of a few years’ standing from different parts of Britain and Ireland to look back at the mission
statement and goals of our organisation which were put to paper last May; and
to look forward, putting flesh on those goals and charting the development of
the Service.

Inchicore Kid's Club, Dublin 2008
I have to admit to being a bit nervous in the
beginning, but I soon got into the mix of things…. It’s a very different
experience to the one you get with the youth service working in Lourdes, but it is just
as rewarding.

L’Arche Community, Canada
I learnt many things that university
couldn’t teach me. I felt that my faith more of a base of its own through my
time at L’Arche. It gave me a lot of time also to reflect on where I would like
my life to go. I learned how to work better with others, to control myself, to
enjoy time that I spent with other people.
